There's something different about speaking in your hometown. The stakes feel closer. The room feels personal.
On June 2, Brad took the stage at The Rooms in St. John's as the keynote speaker for the Canadian Airports Council’s national event hosted this year by St. John's International Airport (YYT).
The room was full of airport operators, executives, and industry leaders from across the country — people who run some of Canada's most complex organizations, manage infrastructure under pressure, and lead large teams in environments where the margin for error is razor-thin. In other words, exactly the kind of audience that understands what Brad talks about.
His keynote drew on the themes he's carried from the ice into every boardroom he's walked into since: building teams that trust each other under pressure, leading with accountability and vulnerability, and creating cultures where people feel safe enough to perform at their best. For an industry where safety culture is mission-critical, the message landed close to home.
It didn't hurt that he was already home. YYT has been the airport Brad has flown in and out of his entire career — to world championships, Olympic Games, and everything in between. Getting to speak to the people who run it, in a city that shaped him, made for a room with a little more electricity than most.
